The run was supposed to flag off at 6.30 but something cocked up and ended up we were at starting line at 7.20 together with the 10 km runners. WE were going for 21 km, not 10 km. So we have to tell the organisers that we were from the earlier batch. Thanks goodness, they allow us to start off before the 10 km flag off at 7.30.
Had a tough time trying to catch up with the main pack, considering we were 50 mins late. But not bad, we managed to catch up with the main pack.
The first 17km was okie. But after that, the distance just didn't seem to move. 18.... 19... 20... 20.5?!?! 20.7.... 20.9.... 21!!! Finally. My timing at the gate was 2hr 57 mins. Minus the 50 mins time lag... minus the 5 mins i spent queueing up for toilet at East coast park. I think i slightly over 2 hrs. Not that bad la. COnsidering i ran 1 hr 40 mins during NS 5 years back. 20 mins more over 5 years. It means I deteroriate at a rate of 4 mins per year. Okie la.
One thing for sure. While i was crossing the 21 km finishing line, I had this in my mind.... I need to do another 21 km to complete the 42 km marathon at the end of the year. It's crazy. Why did i sign up in the first place? Doing the registration at the comfort of ur home realli doesn't seem to bring in the actual circumstances i will be facing. I better start training.
Anyway the tag in the pic is not mine. I took it from my friend's blog. hah
